I was very interested to be involved in the restoration work of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Despite the special climatic conditions of this region, I managed to completely restore the entire sculpture before the onset of hot summer. I started to work on February 1st of 2024 and finished all my work on April 30th. Total I worked 160 hours.

Due to special weather conditions I had to work from 1 hour to 6 hours a day. On average I worked only 3 hours a day, and on some days I simply could not work because of the rain and the independence of moisture. During all of my work period it was sometimes very windy, very cold or very hot, but most important it was a huge humid all the time.

It was precisely because of these unusual weather conditions that this restoration was a challenge for me as a master and a test of my technical understanding of the process. But it was a challenge for me as an artist as well since I tried to catch the breath of the author of the sculpture and the sought-after motives of this very profound theme.

I restored the completely destroyed parts of the sculpture and completely repainted the sculpture and all its details. This monumental sculpture came alive with bright colors and thanks to the new colors it became such a prominent beacon on the coast. And up close you can admire all the small details that I tried to organically fit into the concept of Lady of Guadalupe. I complemented this work with my artistic vision and added new shades and details that were not there before or looked different.

Of course, the weather in this region is very unusual with its heavy rains like waterfalls, very high humidity and intense summer heat. I really hope that this work will last as long as possible, but I understand well that the day will come when a new person will come to restore this sculpture. And who knows, if I am again offered to help with restoration work I will take up this work with great pleasure again.
